Fire Pit Heat Deflectors
A deflector takes heat that was going straight up and pushes it out at the people sitting around the pit. It works. It also changes how the fire itself behaves, which is the part the listings skip.

They do work — a deflector intercepts the hot plume above a fire and redirects it outward, which is where you are sitting. The trade is real though: on a smokeless pit, restricting the top of the burn is working against the airflow that makes it smokeless. Buy one that publishes 304 stainless and fits your pit by name or by measurement.
How we judged these
- Ranked on published alloy first. This part sits in the hottest part of the plume, and 304 stainless versus unspecified stainless is the difference between a deflector that stays presentable and one that does not.
- Then on fit certainty: a deflector sized to a named pit, or one that publishes all three dimensions, beats one that leaves you measuring hopefully.
- Then on what else it does — a combined deflector and spark screen genuinely removes a second purchase.
- Every dimension, alloy and inclusion is quoted from the current retail listing and cited on that product's own spec sheet. Where a listing publishes nothing, the row says so.
- What we did not do: fit any of these to a pit, measure a temperature difference, or quantify the effect on secondary combustion.
We have not burned any of these units, and we do not claim to have. The full method, including what it cannot tell you.

| 1 | Hydream 2-in-1 Heat Deflector with Spark Screen, 19.5 inThe same 304 stainless construction as the joqepy, but it combines the deflector with a mesh spark screen and includes two pokers. For a pit near seating or under anything, that combination solves two problems with one purchase — and at the lowest price of any deflector here. | Deflector and spark screen in one | 304 stainless steel | $30.99 · View on Amazon |
| 2 | JCLMER Fire Pit Heat Deflector for Solo Stove Bonfire, 19.5 in304 stainless, sized to the 19.5 in Bonfire, detachable, with a handle and legs. It publishes the alloy — which is the single fact that separates a deflector that stays bright from one that blooms rust in a season. No spark screen in the box: this is the plain single-purpose version, and it comes apart to pack flat. | A single-purpose Bonfire deflector | 304 stainless steel | $43.99 · View on Amazon |
| 3 | VEVOR Square Heat Deflector, 25.4 x 25.4 x 14.6 inA square stainless deflector on four foldable legs that stands over a pit rather than clipping to one. - Combines the two accessories most Bonfire owners buy separately
- 304 stainless published, matching the more expensive options
- Two pokers included at a price below the bare deflectors
- A combined unit does each job slightly less well than a dedicated screen or deflector
- Mesh over a smokeless pit restricts the airflow that makes it smokeless in the first place
- Newer seller with limited track record
Bonfire owners who want ember containment and heat redirection without two purchases.
You already own a spark screen — buy the joqepy and skip the duplication.

JCLMER Fire Pit Heat Deflector for Solo Stove Bonfire, 19.5 in
JCLMER
304 stainless, sized to the 19.5 in Bonfire, detachable, with a handle and legs. It publishes the alloy — which is the single fact that separates a deflector that stays bright from one that blooms rust in a season. No spark screen in the box: this is the plain single-purpose version, and it comes apart to pack flat.

No spark screen in the box: this is the plain single-purpose version, and it comes apart to pack flat.
- 304 stainless is published, not implied — the grade that resists rust over the heat cycles
- Detachable, so it packs flat instead of being a permanent 20 in dome in the garage
- Handle and legs are both named on the listing, which is more than most here publish
- Fits the 19.5 in Bonfire only — wrong for a Yukon, a Ranger or anything not Solo Stove
- A deflector chokes the top of a smokeless pit, which can visibly reduce the secondary burn
- Stainless discolors to straw and blue over the fire; that is heat, not a defect
Bonfire 2.0 owners who already own a spark screen and want the heat pushed outward.
You own anything other than a 19.5 in Bonfire, or you bought a smokeless pit for the clean flame.

VEVOR Square Heat Deflector, 25.4 x 25.4 x 14.6 in
VEVOR
A square stainless deflector on four foldable legs that stands over a pit rather than clipping to one. Full dimensions are published — 25.4 x 25.4 x 14.6 in — so for once you can measure your own pit and know before you buy.
A square stainless deflector on four foldable legs that stands over a pit rather than clipping to one. Full dimensions are published — 25.4 x 25.4 x 14.6 in — so for once you can measure your own pit and know before you buy.
- Full published dimensions, so fit is a measurement rather than a gamble
- Free-standing legs mean it works over almost any bowl up to its footprint
- Folds for storage, which a fixed dome does not
- The listing says stainless but not the grade, so 304 versus 430 is unknown
- 14.6 in of height over a tall bowl may sit closer to the flame than you want
- Four legs on uneven ground is four chances to wobble
Owners of non-Solo-Stove pits who have been shut out of this category entirely.
You have a Bonfire — the fitted 19.5 in options sit better and cost less.

joqepy Square Heat Deflector, 24 x 24 x 24 in
joqepy
Square, stainless, foldable legs, and 24 in of height rather than the VEVOR's 14.6 in. That extra clearance is the reason to choose it: over a tall bowl or a big fire, a deflector sitting too low scorches itself and smothers the burn.

- 24 in of clearance suits a tall bowl or a fire you actually load up
- Same measurable, free-standing approach as the VEVOR with more headroom
- Folds flat for storage
- More height means less heat pushed outward — the deflection is gentler
- Grade of stainless again unpublished
- The largest footprint here, so it needs the space around the pit
Big wood fires in open pits where a low deflector would sit in the flame.
You want maximum heat thrown at seated guests. Lower is more aggressive.

YEFU Heat Deflector for Solo Stove Bonfire 19.5 in
YEFU
Fits the 19.5 in Bonfire, and that is very nearly everything the listing says. At roughly double the joqepy price with no published alloy, no stated legs and no handle, it is hard to argue for on the facts available.

- Correctly sized for the most common smokeless pit in the country
- In stock and shipping, which the fitted accessories are not always
- Simple single-purpose design
- Around twice the price of the joqepy with strictly less published about it
- No stated stainless grade, which is the fact that matters most here

What a deflector is actually doing
A fire loses most of its energy upward. The visible flame radiates sideways at you, but the hot gas column above it carries far more heat, and it goes straight up into the sky where it warms nobody. A deflector is a plate or dome suspended over that column: the plume hits it, cannot continue, and spreads outward and down instead.
The effect is most noticeable on exactly the pits that need it most. A deep barrel-style smokeless pit — a Bonfire, a Yukon — has a tall narrow flame that throws its energy almost vertically. That is why these pits are famously less warm than their size suggests, an issue we go into in do smokeless fire pits give off less heat.
Two different products under one name
Search for a heat deflector and you get two quite different things, and the reviews for each end up mixed together.
| Type | How it mounts | Suits | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fitted, 19.5 in | Sits on the rim of a named pit | Solo Stove Bonfire owners | Fits that pit and essentially nothing else |
| Free-standing, square | Four folding legs on the ground | Any pit within its footprint | Leg stability, and height over a tall bowl |
The fitted versions look neater and sit closer. The free-standing ones are the only option if you own anything other than a Bonfire, which is most people.
Height matters more than it looks. A deflector low over the fire pushes heat out aggressively and takes a beating doing it. One sitting higher is gentler in both directions. That is the real difference between the two free-standing options here — roughly 14.6 in of height against 24 in — and neither is wrong, they are just tuned differently.
Alloy is the spec that decides how it ages
This part lives in the hottest, most oxygen-rich part of the fire, cycling from ambient to the flaming-combustion range and back every time you use it. Two listings here state 304 stainless; two say stainless without a grade, and one says nothing about material at all.
All of them will discolor. Stainless heat-tints to straw, then brown, then blue, and that is the surface oxide layer changing rather than corrosion — the published temperatures behind it are in how hot does a fire pit get. What the grade decides is what happens after that: 304 holds up, lower grades start to bloom actual rust at the edges and welds. We go through this in more depth for pits themselves in steel gauge and alloy.
Will it actually make you warmer?
Honestly: yes, but within limits, and the limits are geometric rather than about the deflector. Redirected heat still obeys the inverse-square law. A deflector improves what reaches a chair at four feet considerably more than what reaches a chair at eight feet, because at eight feet there is very little arriving either way.
- Pull the seating in first. It is free, and it does more than any accessory. Then decide whether you still need a deflector.
- Expect the fire to look different. The flame is contained rather than free-standing, and some people simply do not like it.
- Expect to lose some of the show. Watching flames is half the reason people buy these pits, and a plate over the top is between you and them.
- Do not expect it to work like a patio heater. If radiant warmth over a wide area is the goal, that comparison is the more honest place to start.
Handling one safely
A deflector is the hottest removable object in your backyard while the fire is running — it is designed to intercept the plume, so it absorbs everything that plume carries. Two of the products here include a handle and one includes pokers; the rest leave it to you.
Move it with proper gloves and preferably not at all while the fire is live. When the evening is over, the deflector stays hot well past the point the fire looks dead, which is the same reason putting a fire out takes longer than people expect.
What we would skip
- Any deflector bought without checking your pit's diameter
Half this category is built specifically for the 19.5 in Solo Stove Bonfire and will not sit on anything else. The other half is free-standing and needs a footprint you actually have. Neither works if you guessed.
- Deflectors that do not publish the stainless grade
304 stainless is the grade that survives repeated heat cycling without blooming rust. Two listings here state it and two just say stainless. On a part that lives directly in the heat plume, that distinction is the product.
- A deflector used to fix a pit that is too far away
Radiant heat falls off steeply with distance. If the seating is eight feet from the fire, a deflector will not bridge that — moving the chairs in will, for nothing.
